Availability
With Availability you tell Coachbox which days and periods you can train. Your coach then does not plan a workout on a day you cannot make, and the calendar shows those days right away.
Availability is for coached athletes and for coaches. If you train without a coach, you see an explanation instead of the form, with a suggestion to ask a coach or choose Solo (see AI Coach).
Set your availability
Open your profile and choose the Availability tab. The page has three parts.
Sports
Select the sports you do. If you select none, we assume all sports.
Training days
- Under Training days, select the weekdays you can normally train. Select all ticks every day at once.
- Want other days for one sport? Under Days per sport, each selected sport has its own row of weekdays. A sport without its own days follows the general training days. Ticking or unticking a day under Training days changes that day in every sport too, so the top row works as a Select all for the sports below it.
You cannot set days for sports you did not select.
Day(s) for a long ride
If cycling is one of your sports, you also mark the Day(s) for a long ride. That can be one day or more, for example Saturday and Sunday. Your coach then plans your long rides on those days.
- Picking a day also ticks it as a training day.
- If you untick a long ride day as a training day, it is dropped as long as you have another long ride day left.
- If it was your last long ride day, it moves to the nearest day that is still ticked. If two days are equally close, the earlier day wins.
- If you untick all training days, you have no long ride day left.
Only the athlete changes sports, training days and the long ride days. A coach sees them on the athlete's page but cannot change them.
Unavailable periods
Under Unavailable periods you add holidays, travel or other periods when you cannot train, or only a little. They apply on top of your regular week.
- Choose Add unavailability.
- Fill in From and Until.
- Under Type, choose Training not possible or Limited training.
- Optionally fill in a Reason, for example holiday.
- Save the period.
Use the three-dots menu on each row to edit or delete a period. Both the athlete and their coach can add, edit and delete periods.
Periods cannot overlap. If a new period overlaps an existing one, you get an error with the dates of that existing period. Edit that period or choose other dates.
What you see in the calendar
In the calendar, days you cannot (fully) train on get a marking. Workouts and notes on those days stay visible and editable.
- Red hatching: a period with Training not possible.
- Amber hatching: a period with Limited training.
- Grey hatching: a day outside your regular week, where none of your selected sports normally trains. The tooltip reads "Does not usually train on" followed by the day.
A day in a period also shows a calendar-off icon. Hover it to see the type and the reason. As athlete or coach, click the icon to edit the period. On a grey day, the icon opens the Availability tab.
Right-click a day and choose Mark as unavailable to record that day as a period quickly.
In the "What do you want to add?" dialog
When you add something to a day, the What do you want to add? dialog has an Unavailable tile to mark that day as unavailable. At the top right, Availability on that day shows:
- the period the day falls in, if any
- which of the selected sports can train on that weekday (faded means: not on that day)
- the Usual long ride day
Onboarding
An invited athlete gets two extra steps the first time they log in: Which sports do you do? and On which days can you train?. The same goes for athletes who coach themselves or look for a coach through matchmaking. You can skip both steps. The days step only sets the general training days. Days per sport and the long ride days are set later on the Availability tab.
Can you still plan on an unavailable day?
Yes. A coach or athlete can still plan a workout on a day with Training not possible or Limited training, and on a day outside the regular week. Nothing blocks it: the calendar marking and the AI Coach's warning are signals.
The athlete did mark that day as unavailable, though. Plan there only deliberately, for example after agreeing it with the athlete. The AI Coach gets a warning for such days and is told to plan around them, but the coach keeps the final say.
AI Coach
The AI Coach reads an athlete's availability before it makes a proposal. If a proposed workout falls on a day inside an unavailable period, it gets a warning. You decide whether to apply the proposal anyway.
In the app
In the mobile app you find it under More > Availability.
Good to know
- If you select no sports, your availability applies to all sports.
- The weekly pattern and the periods guide whoever plans. Adding a workout on a marked day stays possible.
