Import your TrainingPeaks history

Moving from TrainingPeaks to Coachbox? The import brings your completed workouts across, with power, heart rate and GPS, so you start on day one with your full history instead of an empty calendar.

What does this feature do?

TrainingPeaks lets you download the files behind your activities: the "Workout Files" export. You upload that ZIP archive in Coachbox and we process it in the background into workouts in your calendar.

  • Supported files from the archive: .fit, .tcx and .gpx, gzipped (.gz) or not.
  • The folder structure does not matter: Coachbox walks the whole archive.
  • Activities already in Coachbox (via a connected platform, a manual upload, or an earlier archive) are skipped automatically, so you don't get duplicates.

Step 1: Download your Workout Files from TrainingPeaks

You request the export from the TrainingPeaks account whose data you want to bring across:

  1. Log into TrainingPeaks.com and go to Settings.
  2. Choose Export Data.
  3. Go to the Workout Files section.
  4. Pick the period you want to export. One export covers at most 12 months.
  5. Download the ZIP file.

Repeat steps 4 and 5 per 12-month period for as far back as you want to go. Five years of history means five archives.

TrainingPeaks' own instructions are here: Data Export.

Step 2: Upload the archive in Coachbox

The import runs in the web app only. It is not available in the Coachbox mobile app yet, so upload your archive from a browser on coachbox.app.

  1. Go to SettingsSynchronisation.
  2. Under Import data once from another platform, click Import on the TrainingPeaks row.
  3. Drop the ZIP file into the upload area or pick it via choose a file.

Processing starts automatically. You see the progress ("X of Y processed") and a summary at the end with how many activities were imported, skipped and failed.

Several archives, one after the other

Because one export covers at most 12 months, a longer history comes as several ZIP files. You upload them one after the other:

  1. Wait for the running import to finish. Only one can run at a time.
  2. Click Import another file and pick the next archive.

Overlapping periods are fine: Coachbox recognises activities it already imported and skips them. You see them back as "skipped" in the summary.

Good to know

  • Completed activities only. The Workout Files export holds only the files of workouts you actually uploaded. Planned workouts and your workout library are not in it, because TrainingPeaks cannot export those.
  • No training zones. The import only brings your activities across. You set your training zones yourself, or your coach sets them for you.
  • Processing can take a few minutes to an hour, depending on the size of your export. You don't need to wait around: the import keeps running in the background, even if you close the window or navigate to another page.
  • Maximum file size: 1 GB per archive. A year of activity files stays well under that.
  • A file we can't read does not block the rest. It shows up as "failed" or "skipped" in the summary, with the reason, and the other activities import as usual.
  • Getting a message that the archive holds no workout files? Then it is probably the wrong export. Under Export Data, TrainingPeaks also offers Workout Summary and Custom Metrics, and those are CSV files without any activity files. You need the ZIP from Workout Files.
  • Coming from Strava? Follow Import your Strava history instead, that export works differently.
