Connecting an Apple Watch

Apple Watch workouts reach Coachbox through the Coachbox iOS app, not the web. The connection runs over Apple Health and is one-way: workouts you record on your Apple Watch are pulled in, but pushing planned trainings from Coachbox to your watch is not possible.

Before you start

  • The connection works on iPhone only. Apple Health does not exist on Android, so you will not see this option there.
  • Install the Coachbox iOS app and log in with your Coachbox account.
  • Make sure your Apple Watch actually writes your workouts to the Apple Health app. The watch's built-in Workout app does this by default.

Connecting Apple Health in the app

  1. Open the Coachbox app and tap the More tab at the bottom.
  2. Tap Synchronisation.
  3. Tap the Apple Health row (Manage your Apple Health and Apple Watch sync).
  4. Turn on the Apple Health sync toggle.
  5. iOS now shows a screen with the data Coachbox wants to read. Enable all categories (especially Workouts) and tap Allow.
  6. Your Apple Watch workouts from the past year appear in the list. From now on, new workouts come in automatically.

Only workouts recorded with the Apple Watch are included. Activities logged by other apps or by your iPhone itself are filtered out on purpose.

Common reasons it does not work

Permissions not (fully) granted

This is the most common cause. If you tap Don't Allow in step 5, or you do not enable every category, Coachbox receives no workouts. iOS also shows this screen only once. To enable it again:

  1. Open the Settings app on the iPhone.
  2. Go to Privacy & SecurityHealthCoachbox.
  3. Turn on the toggle for Workouts (and any other data you want to sync).

Wrong device or Apple Health disabled

If the app says Apple Health is not available, you are on an Android device or Health is blocked (for example by Screen Time restrictions or a work management profile).

The workout was not in Apple Health

Coachbox can only pull in what is in the Health app. Check that the workout is visible there. Workouts from before you connected are not imported retroactively.

The athlete is not logged in to the app

The connection happens per athlete, in the app, on their own phone. A coach cannot set this up centrally for their clients: each athlete goes through the steps above on their own iPhone.

No iPhone, or still missing a workout?

You can always add a workout manually by uploading the .fit or .tcx file via the Upload button on the calendar. See Importing workouts.

For the other connections, see Setting up synchronisation.
